Talking Cannabiz is a newsletter and podcast published by Vido Manufacturing & Distribution Corp. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

  • Your email address, when you subscribe.
  • Your answers to our two optional signup questions: how you describe yourself and your state.
  • Your name, company, role and phone number, if you choose to give them so sponsors can contact you.
  • Messages you send us, such as story ideas, guest suggestions and sponsor inquiries, and any quote or crew request you send to a sponsor through this site.
  • If you ask to be a guest or are booked as one: your name, contact details, what you tell us about yourself, and the date and time of your recording.
  • If you appear on the show: the recording itself, including your voice, your image and what you say.
  • Basic usage information: which pages are visited, the type of device and browser, and a general location based on IP address.
  • Email activity: whether an issue was opened and which links were clicked.

We do not ask for payment details, passwords, government ID or health information, and this site has no user accounts.

How we use it

  • To send the newsletter and tell you about new episodes.
  • To choose stories and sponsor messages that fit who you are and where you are.
  • To understand what people read, watch and listen to, so we can make the show better.
  • To reply when you write to us.
  • To report audience numbers to sponsors, such as how many subscribers we have by role and by state. These totals never identify you.
  • To share your details with sponsors, only if you have given permission. See the next section.

Sharing with sponsors

Sponsors help pay for the show, and some want to reach our subscribers directly. Here is exactly how that works.

  • If you tick the sponsor box at signup, we share your email address, the name, company, role and phone number you gave us, how you describe yourself and your state with our sponsors, so they can contact you with special releases, coupons, deals and other offers. Sponsors may pay us for this.
  • If you send a quote or crew request through this site, we pass that request and the details in it to the sponsor you chose.
  • If you do neither, sponsors never receive your details. They see totals only.
  • Our current sponsors are SeshSure and Trim Crew, both owned by our host, Rob Vido. The list of sponsors may grow, and it is always shown on our Sponsors section.
  • You can withdraw permission at any time by emailing rob@talkingcannabiz.com. We stop sharing from that point and tell sponsors who already have your details to stop contacting you.

Some state laws call this kind of sharing a sale of personal information. We only do it with your permission. We do not sell or give your information to data brokers, list sellers or anyone who is not a sponsor of the show.

If you gave a phone number, sponsors may call or text it. Sponsors agree to contact people one at a time, not through mass mailing lists, and to honor opt-outs right away.

Once a sponsor has your details, its own privacy policy covers how it uses them.

Guests and recordings

If you ask to be a guest, we use what you send us to decide on the request, schedule the recording and stay in touch with you. Confirmed guests may be listed by name on this site before the episode comes out.

We keep your request in encrypted form with our website host so we can tell you if your week goes to another guest. It is deleted when you are booked, when we tell you the week went to someone else, or once the week you asked for has passed. If a week is settled by rock paper scissors, the other guests are never told who you are or how to reach you.

Episodes are public. Once an interview is published, your name, voice, image and what you said can be seen, heard, shared and downloaded by anyone, on this site and on platforms such as YouTube and podcast apps. We can take an episode down from our own channels, but we cannot pull back copies that are already out there.

The permissions guests give us are set out in the guest terms.

Who helps us run the show

We use outside companies to run the show. Kit delivers our email and stores subscriber information. Vercel hosts this website and measures its traffic. Resend delivers the forms on this site to our inbox. Claude, made by Anthropic, helps us prepare for interviews using what guests send us, checks messages sent through our forms for spam, and helps turn recordings into show notes. YouTube and podcast platforms host our video and audio. Calendar and recording tools help us schedule and record guests. They handle your information only to provide those services to us.

Talking Cannabiz is run from the United States, and your information is handled here.

Video and audio players on our pages, such as YouTube and podcast players, are run by those companies and may collect information under their own policies.

Cookies and tracking

We use only what is needed to run the site and measure traffic. We do not use advertising trackers that follow you around the web.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
  • Ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing rob@talkingcannabiz.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under your state law. We honor these requests no matter where you live.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address and answers for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you and keep only a record of your address on a do-not-email list, so we can honor your choice.

We keep pitches, story ideas and other messages for as long as they are useful to the show, and delete them when you ask. Published episodes and issues stay published.

Security

Subscriber information is stored with our email service provider, not on this website. Access is limited to the people who run the show and protected with two-step login. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you.

Age

Talking Cannabiz is for adults 21 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the newsletter and update the date at the top of this page.
